Ingredients needed: mashed potatoes, cauliflower
Cancer is the most protective sign. It’s domain is the home and children. (For spell to protect the home see Specialty of the House Section).
Cauliflower and Potato are two of the most protective lunar foods. The effects of both are said to be long lasting because the potato is a root vegetable therefore it’s magic runs deep. The cauliflower, flowers or blooms, and it is therefore believed to perpetuate energy. Feed these foods to your children to protect them from danger. It can also be eaten by adults to protect the inner child. When potatoes are mashed or whipped, they are reduced to the most gentle and loving aspect of their nature. Mashed potatoes are also considered comfort food and can reduce stress and worry.
All parents (regardless of sun sign) may use this technique at any time to protect their children as parental protection always falls within the realm of Cancerian influence. The spell is most potent when performed while the sun is in Cancer. (June 21 - July 20). If used once in the year with strong visualization, it should lend protection to your children year round. You may still repeat when necessary along with following practical real world common sense methods of safety and protection.
On the subject of protecting children, I must address the subject of children and witchcraft. Through the years I have received many letters and e-mails questioning my view on teenagers and witchcraft. I do not believe I have ever put these views into writing. Here goes...
sorry kids, but this momma witch puts spells in the same category as drinkin’, drivin’, votin’, and goin’ to war. You should be over 18, in some states, make that 21, to partake. The 16 year old can be given a sorceress apprentice permit and cast spells under adult supervision. Teens should not attend wiccan study groups with out written parental consent! The practice of magic can be dangerous for one who is not properly prepared.
My friend Gloria has a very talented young daughter who is quite gifted in the psychic realm. While Gloria was ferociously protecting her daughter from drugs and young bucks, Miss Thang was messin’ around with the magic. It took Gloria over a year to clean the house of spirits, goblins, and ghosts, hosts of incubi and legions of demons. You name it - Miss Thang had conjured it up! Scary stuff. She will make quite the witch some day after those teenage hormones calm down. Youth has a wonderful raw energy but it must be carefully disciplined before applied to the magical arts. To protect your children from witchcraft, place some rosemary in their shoes and in their bellies. Season their pizza with it on full moons.
Now let me play the devils’ advocate. Don’t be surprised if your children turn to witchcraft. Especially if watching dvds with the remote while in the hot tub (or swimming pool) are the extent of soulful experience you have provided for them. I see so many families that emphasize the material goods and neglect the spiritual support. Children are perceptive. Children are hungry. Wicca is an earth religion and therefore close to the ground. Easy to grasp. It is playful and unpunishing. Attractive to hold. It is a loving metaphysical path and if the god and goddess themselves could initiate your children directly, why then, you should be all for it.
Unfortunately there are many unsavory characters out there cloaking themselves in Wicca. Children and even adults must be protected from these types. Secondly, there is a dark side to the path, an underbelly, and an abyss to cross safely before reaching enlightenment. A child born into this path will be properly prepared for this journey when it must be made. The critical concern of this millennium is not over children born and raised in the ways of Wicca. The controversy arises over teens with no grounding who jump into the path.
Imagine a teenage boy flirting with Judaism and being given a circumcision at 13 years instead of 8 days old. Or a teenage girl entering a Catholic church and receiving the host without ever having gone to confession. Or a young infidel being brought into Mecca. In these religions, foundations are laid early in life to prepare for the entering of sacred spaces or to accept the covenant of the faith. Spiritual cleansing takes place so that the benefit of Divine energy can be received. In Wicca it is the same. So don’t be so hard on the kids. Obviously they are hungry for enlightenment and empowerment. Just make sure they are protected and properly prepared.
It is also not surprising that the child who is well grounded and educated in one of the patriarchal paths will wander into Wicca. This child is merely looking to discover his/her roots for the Old Religion is the ancestor of them all. The ancient Hebrews trafficked with idolators and worshipped their gods. Unearth any church in Europe and you will find a sacred grove of the Goddess. Buried beneath the mosques and temples of the middle east lay the ancient Sumerian and Babylonian shrines. Discovering the roots of your religion can only ground you deeper into your chosen path.
